The Making of the Classics...

Three great books are being made into movies, so it looks like a great movie season coming up. I cannot wait to see them.

1) The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, starring Leo DiCaprio and Carrie Mulligan
"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."
--Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
2) On the Road by Jack Kerouac, starring Kristin Stewart and Garrett Hedlund
"The air was soft, the stars so fine, the promise of every cobbled alley so great, that I thought I was in a dream."
--Kerouac, On the Road

 3) The Rum Diary by Hunter S. Thompsonstarring Johnny Depp

"Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming 'Wow! What a Ride!'"
— Hunter S. Thompson

On a side note I have a personal story for all these writers. We used to live across Fitzgerald's childhood home in St. Paul, Minnesota...

We lived in St. Petersburg, FL where Kerouac died...

And we own a painting by Ralph Steadman, who was a personal friend of Thompson's.
